of recently published of recently material is The Antiquities of Clare
by John O'Donovan and Eugene Curry (CLASP Press, €21.00). This is
an assortment of the letters and field notes written by O'Donovan and
Curry during the progress of the Ordnance Survey in County Clare during
1839. The field notes of these two great Gaelic scholars describe graveyards,
churches, holy wells, castles, place names and every conceivable aspects
of Clare's past. The publishers, Clare Local Studies Project (CLASP),
have produced with this book an invaluable collection of material that
should be a reference point for all historians, folklorists and archaeologists
concerned with County Clare.
