The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

The Iron Man starts with a clanking iron giant making his way to the top of a cliff from where, nobody knows. Neither does anybody know how he was made.
Mankind must put a stop to the dreadful destruction caused by the Iron Man. A trap is set for him, but he cannot be kept down. Then, when a terrible monster from outer space threatens the planet, it is the Iron Man who finds a way to save the world.

His insatiable appetite for metals causes him to steal tractors, threshers and digging machines from local farmers. The farmers try to capture the strange, rusty being but the Iron Man escapes from their trap.

The Iron Man becomes everyone’s favourite when he triumphs over danger and overcomes a giant Space-Bat-Dragon-Angel from space. In so doing he comes to be regarded as the people’s hero, as opposed to their perception of him as a villain at the start of the story.
