Dánta Ban: Poems of Irish Women Early and Modern
Selected & Translated by P.L. Henry
A highly energetic and colourful anthology of verse, celebrating all that is female in Irish Poetry. The sparkling collection is divided
into a joyous variety of early and modern epics. The selection includes witty and cynical verses of love, sex and men… some well-
known; others not yet acclaimed. Interjected between time periods are some equally witty and observant proverbs from three Irish
provinces – Leinster for some reason is left out. The juxtapositioning of the translations gives an added rhythm to the spell-binding
fluency of the dramatic and poignant contents.
