Happy Never After

The last thing former Atlanta cop Callahan Garrity, the cleaning lady-cum-sleuth, needs is a new case. But she can’t resist this one, as it involves the Velveteens, Callahan’s favourite pop trio of the ‘60s. Vonette Hunsecker and her cousin, Rita Fontaine, have a chance to make a comeback, if they can locate the missing member of the group - Delores, Rita’s sister.

Callahan plunges into the shark-infested waters of the music biz. But it’s not sharks she finds - it’s the body of the Velveteens’ one-time, hot shot record producer Stuart Hightower, the same man who was trying to prevent them from making any kind of return to the limelight - and lying nearby is an unconscious Rita, clutching a smoking gun . . Callahan soon discovers that Hightower had make more enemies than records and, if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next victim on the ‘hit’ parade.
