Girl with Green Eyes (originally called The Lonely Girl) by Edna O'Brien

Cait and Baba have arrived in Dublin where they are making up for their sheltered upbringing by drinking, wearing lipstick and dressing up for the local men and going dancing. O'Brien's work is concerned with the drama between freedom and restriction, between old-fashioned values and possibilities which are new and untested. The tone of this novel is perfectly wry and innocent.

Edna O' Brien was born in County Clare. The story of Caithleen and Baba began in The Country Girls and continues in Girls in Their Married Bliss.
