Herzog by Saul Bellow

This multifaceted portrait of a modern-day hero is the story of Moses Herzog, a great sufferer, joker, moaner, and charmer. Although his life steadily disintegrates around him, Herzog sees himself as a survivor, both of his private disasters and those of the age.

Herzog and those close to him take on a life of their own in the book, and the ideas about the future of civilization which obsess him are woven carefully and skilfully into the story of his disintegration.
Saul Bellow was born in Canada. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1976.
