The Long Good-bye by Raymond Chandler

Philip Marlowe Private Eye is not a trusting man, but he takes to Terry Lennox, a scarred war hero and a drunk, whose wealthy wife Sylvia is found brutally murdered. Marlowe believes that his friend could not have committed the murder, but Terry is shaping up to cause a lot of grief, and grief is Marlowe's business.
Raymond Chandler was born in Chicago.
