Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis

Jim Dixon, a medieval history lecturer in a provincial university, is the archetypal anti-hero who harbours a beady scepticism of the establishment and the old farts who run it. Jim's ability to cause calamity all around him and then make things worse, his mixture of malice and innocence make you laugh out loud and follow his fate with amusement and great interest.
Kingsley Amis was born in London. He won the Booker Prize in 1986.
