The Nice and the Good by Iris Murdoch
Random House Group 2000

Revolving around a happily married couple and an infinite number of friends, this story is set beside the sea in Dorset. The novel deals with love in its many aspects, but the sub-plot involves murder and black magic - we are lead through stress and terror to a profoundly joyous conclusion. Murdoch handles the large cast of characters with great clarity and skill.
Iris Murdoch was born in Dublin. She won the Booker Prize for The Sea, the Sea in 1978.
