The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John Le Carré

The spy is Leamas, head of British Command in Berlin, still divided by the Wall. Leamas is a tired man, frozen of heart, a failure. He is sent to East Germany, apparently to defect but actually to provide disinformation. After a typically complex series of twists, turns and double-crosses, a very different picture emerges. In this classic novel, full of icy implications and ambiguous truths, Le Carré summed up the social and political conditions of an era.
John Le Carré was born in Dorset.
