The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John Le Carré
The spy is Leamas, head of British Command in Berlin,
still divided by the Wall. Leamas is a tired man, frozen of heart, a failure.
He is sent to East Germany, apparently to defect but actually to provide
disinformation. After a typically complex series of twists, turns and
double-crosses, a very different picture emerges. In this classic novel,
full of icy implications and ambiguous truths, Le Carré summed
up the social and political conditions of an era.
