Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor

Hazel Motes, who returns from the army to the evangelical south, is a religious fanatic driven by the need to escape his own fanaticism. Motes and his companions are grotesque but familiar, brutish but funny. O'Connors' startling use of language and the intense originality of her Gothic imagination make this a classic of the American South.
Flannery O' Connor was born in Georgia. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1971.
