Beware the Killer Coat by Susan Gates

When Andrew’s Mum sees a shiny red coat for sale at bargain price in the second-hand shop, she buys it immediately. Andrew, however, wants a new coat and is convinced that Mum’s bargain buy is scowling and snarling at him with its zips like lips of metal teeth.

Andrew’s not even surprised when the killer coat traps him inside its darkness, and clings round his face like an octopus while he tries frantically to take it off.

The coat loves to eat important school notes, new gloves and it even eats Andrews’ pet rat! Will Andrew be able to find a way to defeat the monster coat before he, too, is eaten?

A simple but challenging vocabulary presented in large type makes this story ideal for beginners. Comical drawings and comic-style speech bubbles will attract and hold the interest of reluctant readers.
