Corgi Pups are perfect for new readers just starting to read their own stories. Like most of the titles included in this guide, they share common characteristics of books geared towards children aged six and up; well spaced text in large print combined with plenty of illustrations.

For her seventh birthday Alice chooses a budgie for a present after finding good reasons to rule out a kitten, a guinea pig and even a snake. However, this budgie is not like any other. This budgie doesn’t talk, it barks. A barking budgie is bad enough but with three labradors joining in, it’s no joke. Trust Alice to end up with a budgie that could only speak dog.

With the help of her friend Katie, Alice makes a brave decision to set Dogbird free but not until he finds a home with Grandma is the problem of the barking budgie resolved.
