The Lion Cub by Eilís Dillon
Published by Poolbeg Press, 1992
ISBN 1-85371-215-9

Mark and his family take a day off from the farm work and go to visit the zoo. Mark takes a particular interest in the lions and coincidentally learns from the old lion keeper that his namesake, St Mark, is traditionally represented by a lion. Before they leave the zoo Mark unbelievably hides one of the cubs in the family’s picnic bag and takes it home.

The Lion Cub by Eilís Dillon

Looking after a lion cub on the family farm, feeding it and trying to keep it a secret, causes Mark and his sister Catherine quite a few problems. Mark realises that looking after a pet - especially a lion - is not quite as easy as he first thinks.
