Luke is soccer mad. He is captain of the Swillsby Swifts, a Sunday League team for local village boys. All the team members are like Luke – boys who never get a look-in in their school team, but who all want to play. When the Swifts are drawn to play the Panthers in the first round of the League Cup, Luke looks forward to the challenge, but the rest of his team mates think he is being too optimistic and that they haven’t a hope.

Will the teamwork, practice and tactics of the Swifts pay off in the end, or will the Panthers get the upper hand as usual? This is a book on football but even the football illiterate will enjoy it as it is a story which is full of humour and action. It is the first book in the Big Match Series by Rob Childs.
