Books Ireland organise a nationwide competition which runs during
Children’s Book Festival each year. This year’s competition
requested children to design a bookmark.
Almost
four hundred entries were received through Library branches from
children all over Clare. Entries were short listed and judged by
Clare County Arts Officer Siobhan Mulcahy.
The
overall winner was Juan Condon Mariscal aged 9 from Scariff National
School. Juan’s entry merited a prize of a €50 book token
and an award certificate, compliments of Clare County Library and
The Youth Library Group of The Library Association of Ireland. His
design will be judged by Children’s Books Ireland, whose headquarters
are based in Dublin. If he is awarded the National Finalist’s
Prize, his design will appear on all festival logo for Children’s
