Debrett's Peerage and Baronetage
With the 2000 edition, Debrett celebrates 230 years as the oldest existing
peerage reference book. John Debrett first put his name to his Correct
Peerage of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1802, but the history of this
work can be traced back through a connected chain of publishers and printers
to Dugdale's Baronage, the forerunner of all other 'peerages', published
between 1675 and 1676.
Since the publication of the last edition in 1995, the deaths of 109 hereditary
peers have been recorded, and the deaths of 78 life peers. The biographies
of 210 new life peers have been included in the new edition. One hereditary
peerage has gone into abeyance (Barony of Audley), but two have come out
of abeyance (the Baronies of Arlington and Berners).
Debrett's

of entrants is made by the editorial staff of Debrett's and entries are
reviewed annually to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Entries include details of career, education, family, recreations and
membership of clubs as well as contact addresses. An additional feature
is the correct style of address to be used when addressing correspondence
to an entrant.
