This driving licence was issued to Donough O'Brien of Dromoland.
The Motor Car Act of 1903 ensured that all vehicles would be registered, registration would be displayed and also that all drivers would be licensed annually. Another consequence of the act was the speed limit of 20mph, which in 1911 effected some 5000 drivers.
These licences were issued and signed by the County Secretary and allowed the holder to drive until the following year when it would be due for renewal again. The cost to renew the licence was five shillings.
