Scariff Hospital Linen Bag
Scariff Workhouse was one of four workhouses in County Clare during the Famine. Scariff District Hospital was located in the former workhouse until the mid-1920's. The building was to be used as a billet for the Black and Tans during the War of Independence, but was damaged beforehand by fire in an IRA action.
This linen bag was donated by John Holohan, Dublin. His grandather, also John Holohan, was secretary to Scariff Hospital from the early 1900's until it closed in the 1920's.
