Polished Stone Axe

This axe dates from the Neolithic, and was found at Caherconnell, County Clare. Porcellanite, which was a favoured raw material, only occurs in Ireland in County Antrim. However, porcellanite axes have been found throughout the country and were also traded abroad to neolithic groups living in Britain.
