A Survey of Monuments of Archaeological and Historical Interest in the Barony of Bunratty Lower, Co. Clare by William Gerrard Ryan

Part 2: Chapter 10: Kilfinaghta Parish: Ballymulcashel Townland

Site H: STONEFORT (Levelled)

6” O.S. Sheet number : 43 (Co. Clare)
Reference : 21.0 cm South; 32.1 cm West
Height : 131’ O.D.
Shape : circular, based on 1842 6” O.S. sheet

Description of site:
An examination of the relevant 6” O.S. sheet shows a small fort (stonefort?) just south of the road running through Ballymulcashel Townland. Field work in 1978 failed to find any trace of it. In fact its site is now covered by a farm house, probably erected towards the end of the last century. There was no local tradition relating to this site.
