Source: North Munster Antiquarian Journal,
Vol. IV, No. 3, 1919 The Provosts and Vice-Provosts of the Borough
of Ennis The following list of the Provosts, Vice or Deputy-Provosts, and Town Clerks of the Borough of Ennis were taken by Macnamara from two sources - two sheets of parchment in possession of Mr Thomas Crowe, D.L. of Dromore, Ruan which seemed to be the original official records of the borough and from references in the Ennis newspapers the Clare Journal and Ennis Chronicle. Ennis was constituted a borough on 26th September 1612. It consisted of a Provost and twelve Burgesses, who elected two members to represent the borough in the Irish Parliament.
