KILTY
Annie Kilty born about 1867 Ballycally, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, daughter of farmer Thomas and Mary (nee Garvey) Kilty. Sailed from Plymouth 4 June 1884 in “Roma” to Queensland. Lived in Brisbane and Ipswich. Contact made with descendants of Annie’s sister, Catherine, who remained at Ballyaclly but enquirer thinks other sister Bridget Kilty born 13 January 1874 and perhaps two brothers came to Australia. Their descendants sought.

McAULIFFE
Patrick McAuliffe (spelt McColive on passenger list) born around 1857 Ballyvaskin, Ennistymon, Co. Clare, son of Michael and Ellen (nee Gardiner) McAuliffe. Married Agnes daughter of Thomas and Maria (nee McCarthy) Moroney; six children. Arrived 24 October 1878 South Australia in “Hesperis”. Farmed at Hannond, South Australia and Katanning, Western Australia. Died 7 November 1937, Perth, Western Australia. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

O’CONNOR
Michael and Julia O’Connor wrote to their aunt, Mary O’Connor, of Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, on November 24 1902 from Waripouri Street, Newtown, Wellington, New Zealand. John O’Connor baptized May 1865 settled in Queensland. Thomas O’Connor (1862-1900) was grandfather of enquirer who seeks O’Connor relatives in Australia and New Zealand.

MORONEY
Thomas Moroney born 1866 Ballyvaghan, Co. Clare. Arrived Queensland with mother Mary (nee Hynes) Moroney and children Patrick, Stephen, John, Margaret, Mary, Susan and Elizabeth. Settled 1884 at Nundah. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

FOGARTY
James Fogarty born 1837 Co. Clare, son of Michael and Bridget (nee Flanigan) Fogarty. Arrived Sydney 1860 in “Lady McDonnell”. Married May 3 1865 at Queanbeyan, Bridget Kelly; five children. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

LYSAGHT
Margaret Mary Josephine Lysaght born around 1864 Killshanny, Co. Clare, daughter of Patrick and Johanna (nee Fitzpatrick) Lysaght. To Australia. Married January 11 1885 John Walls at Townsville, Queensland. Settled at Rockhampton. Their son, Andrew Raymond Wills born 1905 married Edna Vivian Mary McDonald, the daughter of James Arthur and Rosabella (nee O’Connor) McDonald. Their son, Joseph Allan Walls married Joyce Marie Clements of Belfast ancestry. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

MAGHLIN
Mary Maghlin born about 1816, daughter of Robert and Mary Maghlin of Brickhill, Co. Clare. Married William Flynn in Ireland, came to Australia 1840 and settled at Morpeth NSW. Families connected with Maghlins of Co. Clare in 18th century were Blood, Bettesworth, Smith, Brownrigg, Hickman and Creagh. The enquirer seeks any information about the Maghlin name.

BARRY
From Co. Clare late 1800s. Margaret last heard of 1924 was Mrs Margaret Geoghegan, 6 Morton Street, North Sydney and had two daughters, Eileen and Margaret. Bridget Barry, whose married name unknown but may be Mrs J.J. Geoghegan of Moyrath, Carrington Road, Waverley NSW. The enquirer seeks relatives.


ISSUE 2, SEPTEMBER 1984

FORD
John Joseph Ford born around 1842 in County Clare, son of Michael and Catherine (nee Barrett) Ford. Arrived Sydney prior to 1860. Thought that sister Ellen and a brother came too. Married in East Maitland RC church 14 November 1868 Maria O’Gorman. Family history here complete but the enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

McAULIFFE
Patrick McAuliffe (McColive on ship’s list) born c1857 Ballyvaskin, Co. Clare, son of Michael and Ellen (nee Gardiner) McAuliffe. Married Agnes, daughter of Thomas and Maria (nee McCarthy) Morony of Ennistymon, Co. Clare. Arrived South Australia 24 October 1878 on “Hesperis”. Farmed at Hannond SA and later at Katanning WA. Died 7 November 1937 Perth WA. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

Philip Dinan born about 1814 Tulla, Co. Clare. Married there Bridget Stack. To Melbourne, a butcher. Daughter Margaret born 1842, married 3 August 1876 at Port Melbourne, Charles Beer. Their son, Charles Henry Beer, married Agnes Maud Walter. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

MOLONEY
William Moloney of County Tipperary, son of James and Mary (nee Condon) Moloney arrived 1857 aged 21 Melbourne in “War Spirit”. He married1866 Honora, daughter of Thomas and Ellen (again nee Condon) Meyers. Patrick and Catherine (nee Kelly) Moloney from County Clare arrived Melbourne 1841 in “Royal Saxon” and in Melbourne were born their children, Patrick, William, James, Michael and two daughters. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

POWELL
Bridget Powell born c1838 County Clare, daughter of Patrick and Hannah (nee Cleary) Powell. To Victoria. Married 16 April 1860 in St. Mary’s, Geelong, Charles Joinnes, settled there. Only child, Hannah Mary Joinnes, born 1865 married John Lloyd. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

COREY
Simon Corey born c. 1815 County Clare. Arrived Sydney 31 December 1836 in “Earl Grey”. Worked at Molonglo as shepherd, later selected land at Jingera. Married 1843 Ellen Killeen from County Clare. Died 1869. Son, William, born 1856 married Elizabeth Scott, grandparents of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland.


EURELL
Thomas Eurell born circa 1815 County Westmeath arrived Sydney. Married at Bungendore, NSW, April 1851 Hannah, daughter of Patrick and Mary (Crane) Maloney, from County Clare. Miner at Maneroo, Tumut and Gundagai. Died circa 1875. Son Thomas Eurell married Rosannah Sims and were ancestors of of husband of enquirer, who seeks relatives.

HARKIN
Austin Harkin, harness-maker, born 1851, son of farmer Austin and Anne (nee Tronney) Harkin. Married in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, 6 June 1884 Maggie born 1853 daughter of stonecutter Henry and Anne (nee O’Loghlin) Maddigan of Ennis, County Clare. Family of 13. Son, James Paul Harkin born 1884 married Margaret Florence daughter of of John born 1851 County Galway and wife Marie (nee Sullivan) Meehan born 1885 County Clare. Family researched by enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

HEALY
Ellen Healy born near Scariff, County Clare. Arrived Sydney 1857 in “Vocalist” where sister Mary lived. Married in Mudgee, NSW, 1859, Patrick Miskle who arrived 1841 from Loughrea, County Galway. Six children born in Rylstone, NSW. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

HOGAN
Ellen Hogan born circa 1833 County Clare or Limerick, daughter of John Hogan. Arrived Adelaide circa 1854 and at Gawler married 1856 Josiah William Williams, sawyer from England. Children Mary Jane 1857, John Dalby 1859, Ellen 1861 and Catherine 1863. Descendant of John Dalby Williams who married in 1898 in Adelaide Elsie Bates is enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

LIDDY
Patrick Liddy born Milltown, Tulla, County Clare, dates on certificates 1825, 1826 and 1833, son of Anthony and Bridget (nee Canane) Liddy. Emigrated to Australia. Married, firstly, in St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, 1855, Catherine, daughter of James and Honora (nee Fox) McGannon from County Clare. Children Thomas, Bridget, Margaret, James, Ellen and Sarah. Married, secondly, in St Ignatius Church, Richmond, Melbourne 1870 Ellen daughter of John and Ellen (nee Egan) Linane. Children John, William and Daniel. Settled in Canning Street, North Melbourne. Patrick died 1901. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

LONDRAC
In Port Fairy cemetery, Victoria, there is a tombstone surmounted by a Celtic Cross and the inscription is in the Irish Gaelic language. Translated, it reads “In memory of Aindrias Londrac, born in County Clare in Ireland. Died 22 June 1912 at the age of 84 years. An Irishman he died.”

MOLONEY
Patrick Moloney or Maloney, born circa 1838 at Moynor, County Clare, son of Michael and Anne Moloney. Arrived Sydney 1857 in “John and Lucy”. Married 1858 in Newcastle RC Church Mary Ryan, daughter of Patrick and Mary (nee Dawson) Ryan from County Tipperary. Settled at Newcastle, miner. Son Patrick Moloney born 1861 married Mary Ann Lynch daughter of Patrick and Mary Anne (nee Timms) Lynch grandparents of enquirer who seeks relatives.

MCKEON
John McKeon born Killargue, County Leitrim, 1 January 1857, son of Peter and Anne (nee Deviney) McKeon, schoolteacher. Had brothers Michael, Peter and Felix and sisters Maria, Bridget and Margaret. Arrived Rockhampton, Queensland, 5 April 1881 in “Earl Granville”. School headmaster. Married in Croydon 7 June 1891 Annie Kilty from Newmarket-on-Fergus, County Clare. He died 9 April 1938 Bundaberg. Family of six including Cecil Connolly McKeon, MM, manager of Queensland State Wheat Board, the uncle of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

MCNAMARA
Michael McNamara born circa 1815 Clooney, Tulla, County Clare, had brothers John and James and his mother was Mary. To Sydney where he married 30 September 1843 Susan Haire (or Hehir, or O’Hehir), witnesses being John and Mary Haire. Children Emma Jane, Teresa and John James. Michael was in 1846 schoolteacher at Penrith. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

MAGRATH
Patrick Magrath baptised 26 July 1829 in St Patrick’s RC Church, Kilkenny City, and brother James, 27 May 1832, emigrated circa 1857, probably both to New Zealand where James spent 17 years before arriving in Victoria. Married at Bendigo 1883 a German widow. Died 1885 at Serpentine Creek. Patrick arrived Melbourne circa 1857 and served in Victoria Mounted Police 1858 – 1862. Married at Bendigo 6 July 1859 Jane, daughter of Matthew and Mary (nee Ryan) Ryan from Killaloe, County Clare, family of eight. Died 1880. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

MORONY
John Morony, born 1797 Ennistymon, County Clare. Arrived South Asutralia 1852 in “Charlotte Jane” with son Thomas, born 1836, and sister Agnes aged about 18. Farmed at Wilmington. Thomas married at Kapunda 17 January 1857 Maria McCarthy, family of 13. The enquirer, their great-great-granddaughter, seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

O’BRIEN
Denis O’Brien born circa 1830 in Carrigaholt town at mouth of River Shannon, County Clare, son of Denis and wife (Hennessy) O’Brien. Arrived 8 April 1862 Sydney in “Annie Wilson”. Married at Clarefield near Goulburn, New South Wales, 10 February 1866 Margaret, daughter of Michael and Johana (nee O’Brien) McInerney. Settled grazier at Lost River near Crookwell, New South Wales. Died 1917. Daughter Catherine married James Andrew Crowe. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

QUEALLY
Catherine Queally born circa 1817 Ballymacooda, County Clare, daughter of David and Margaret (nee Monaghan) Queally. Married circa 1845 Michael, son of – and Mary (nee Meehan) Donohue of Ennis. Arrived Australia with other Queallys. Daughter Mary born 1860 at Seaham, New South Wales. Family later to Chatsworth. Is in Clarence River where relatives Patrick, son of Timothy and Mary (nee Murphy) Queally had farm. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and New South Wales.

Andrew Byrne born c1831 Co. Wicklow perhaps Rathdrum or Glendalough son of John and Elizabeth (nee Grant) Byrne. Arrived 19 March 1850 Melbourne in “Reliance” having lived in Drumcordree, Co. Meath before embarkation. Fare cost £11-1-3. Carter from wharves. Married in Prahran RC Church 1857 Ellen dau of Patrick and Mary Hehir or Hare of Co. Clare. Killed in street accident 1876 leaving 5 children. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

CORBETT
Michael Corbett born 1812 Cooga, Killadysert, Co. Clare. Married there Bridget Casey of Gortnahaha, Killadysert. Children Michael, Ned, Honor, Bridget and Susan. Ned arrived Australia probably Brisbane. The enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

BALMER
Robert Sarjeant Balmer, born 1827 County Clare, son of Richard and Mary Ann (nee Sarjeant) Balmer. Mary Ann Sarjeant was the daughter of Thomas Sarjeant of Mallow, County Cork and his wife Mary, from County Clare. Richard Balmer was a Brevet Major in the Royal Irish Constabulary and a woollen merchant and was a son of Thomas Balmer of Dundalk, County Louth. R.J. Balmer married, firstly, in St Martin’s-in-the-Fields, London, 1849, Sophia Ann Allen of Derbyshire and they arrived in Adelaide 31 October 1849 in the “Senator”. To Bendigo where they opened the first school there circa 1852/1853 at Golden Gully. Daughter Emily born 1854 married in Christchurch, New Zealand, first cousin Benjamin Balmer. Family researched by enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

CANNANE
Patrick Cannane, born circa 1844 County Clare, son of William and Bridget (nee Fowler) Cannane. To Sydney. Married in St Mary’s Cathedral, 7 May 1866, Mrs Mary (O’Shaughnessy) O’Halloran whose three year-old son Patrick was born when the ship was rounding the Cape of Good Hope, and whose sister Margaret O’Shaughnessy married 16 June 1866 Patrick Hogan. Son, James Cannane and wife Ellen were the parents of John Joseph Cannane, the grandfather of the enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

CONSIDINE
Mary Considine, born circa 1780 in Ennis, County Clare, daughter of John and Ann Considine. Transported to Sydney 1801 for seven years. Married in St John’s, Parramatta, 6 April 1807 blacksmith John Masterson from Straffan, Celbridge, County Kildare who was transported to Sydney 1799. Family of six. John died circa 1819 and Mary 13 September 1849 at Georges Rivers. Daughter, Mary Masterson, married David Hannam at Campbelltown, New South Wales. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

CROWE
John Walsh Crowe born circa 1833 Killaloe, County Clare, sn of William and Honora (nee Walsh) Crowe. William was son of Patrick Crowe of O’Briensbridge, County Clare. J.W. Crowe arrived circa 1854 Victoria and farmed at Codrington from 1856. Married in St Patrick’s, Port Fairy 1858 Mary Sinnott, daughter of Thomas and Jane (nee Roche) Sinnott, both from County Wexford; family of eight – Honora, William, Jane Frances, Thomas, Bridget, John, Michael and James Thomas. Died 1918. Honora born 1860 married Michael John Forrest, the son of Francis and Johanna (nee Maddigan) Forrest, she the daughter of Michael and Ann (nee Reidy) Maddigan from Kilrush, County Clare the grandparents of enquirer.

CROWE
William Crowe, born circa 1839 County Clare, the son of William and Honora (nee Walsh) Crowe of O’Brien’s Bridge, County Clare. Married Bridget O’Shaughnessy. Arrived Victoria, settling at Yambuk, farming. Family of twelve. The enquirer, their great-grandson, seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

DIXON
James Dixon, born circa 1801 County Clare, son of George and Ann (nee Quinn) Dixon. Married circa 1830 there, Ann Lysaght. Arrived Victoria circa 1852 and settled at Kyneton. County Court bailiff 1853 – 1873. Died 8 November 1873. Daughter, Ellen Dixon, born circa 1844, married Robert Charles Lambert from Dublin, son of barrister John and Jane (nee Peyton) Lambert. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

GUTHRIE
James Guthrie born 21 February 1855 at Corofin, County Clare. Arrived in Melbourne 6 November 1884 in the “John Elder”. Married 26 September 1888.

MCINERNEY
Michael McInerney, born circa 1815 Ballyloum, County Clare, son of John and Margaret (nee Keating) McInerney. Married circa 1837 Joanna, daughter of Patrick and Mary (nee Byrne) O’Brien. Arrived Sydney 6 June 1851 in the “Emperor”. Settled farming at Clarefield, Spring Valley, Goulburn. Daughter Margaret marriedDenis, son of Denis and – (nee Hennessy) O’Brien. Their daughter, Catherine O’Brien, married James Andrew Crowe, great-grandparents of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and elsewhere.

MCINERNEY
Alice McInerney born 1850 County Clare, daughter of Joseph and Mary (nee Lawlor) McInerney. Arrived Victoria 1866, settled at Breakwater, near Geelong. Married at St Mary’s, Geelong, 26 September 1872 John Hardyman, born 1849 County Galway, son of Patrick and Margaret (nee Hartigan) Hardyman. Daughter Florence born 1887, grandmother of enquirer who seeks relatives.

MCNAMARA
James McNamara, born circa 1836 County Clare, son of John McNamara. Married at Clarecastle 29 June 1873 Jane, daughter of Daniel Gleeson. Arrived Port Adelaide 1876. Farm worker various properties. Daughter Mary McNamara married Edmund Crowe of Cross, County Limerick. James died from fall from horse on Martindale Estate near Mintaco, South Australia. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland.

O’BRIEN
Bridget born 1858, Michael, Benjamin, Margaret and Timothy O’Brien born 1866the children of John and Margaret (nee Malone) O’Brien of Moynoe near Scariff, County Clare, emigrated individually to New Zealand in late 1870s and early 1880s. John died at Moynoe circa 1866 and widow Margaret remarried 1867 to Robert Guerin and had Kate, Ellen, twins John and Mary, Robert and Julia born 1881 all at Moymnoe. Members of the Guerin family went to USA. Michael born 1859 great-grandfather of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland, USA and elsewhere.

SHANNON
James Shannon born circa 1837 County Clare, son of James and Alice (nee Hegarty) Shannon. Arrived Geelong. Married 24 January 1867 at Ballarat, Bridget, daughter of Mathias and Mary Guthrie. Goldmining at Ballarat. Died 1904. Daughter Annie Shannon, born 1880, married Robert Alexander, son of John and Bridget (nee Walsh) Alexander, grand-parent of enquirer who seeks relatives.

TALTY
Simon Talty born circa 1851 County Clare, son of James and Honora (nee Foley) Talty. Arrived Sydney circa 1865. Married in St Joseph’s, Woolahra, 9 November 1875 Margaret Campbell. Grocer in Oxford Street, Sydney, 1879 – 1898. Died 14 April 1912. Children Mary Jane, Mrs Cunningham; James Patrick, a saddle manufacturer; sea-captain Michael; bootmaker John; master baker Francis Simon in Brisbane; Edmund and Louisa Margaret and William. Enquirer seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

BALMER
A reunion of descendants of Robert Sarjeant Balmer, born 1827, County Clare, who married Sophia Ann Allen and arrived in South Australia 27 October 1847 and moved to Bendigo, Victoria in 1852, is being organised. When she died, he married Elizabeth Hicks, both teachers. The luncheon and reunion will be held at Hornsby, Sydney, on Saturday 3 May 1986.

CALLAGHAN

Mary Callaghan or O’Callaghan, born circa 1847, County Clare, daughter of Michael and Mary (nee Sullivan) Callaghan. Arrived Melbourne November 1868 in “Conflict”. Married at East Melbourne 6 May 1871 Thomas Martin. Children Thomas, William, James, Mary Ann, John, Robert, Margaret Ann and Eliza Mary. Died 29 December 1915 Richmond, Melbourne. Enquirer seeks relatives in Australia and elsewhere.

O’LOGHLEN

Michael Colman O’Loghlen, born 1839, County Clare, son of John and Jane (nee Egan?) O’Loghlen. Arrived Victoria. Married at Hamilton, Victoria, 1871 Louise Margaret Beere, daughter of Edward and Mary (nee Hansbrow) Beere. Daughter Mary O’Loghlen, born 1877, married Edward Abbott. Their daughter, Kathleen Abbott, married William Nest, parents-in-law of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland.

QUIGLEY
Bridget Quigley, born circa 1833 in County Sligo / Roscommon area, daughter of Patrick and Ann (nee Tierney) Quigley. Arrived Sydney 29 July 1850 in “Tippoo Saib”. To Braidwood, Camden Park and latterly at Camperdown where she died 17 May 1886. Married 15 November 1858 in St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, George Dagworthy. Daughter Ellen Dagworthy married James Cannane, son of Patrick and Mary O’Halloran (nee O’Shaughnessy) Cannane from County Clare. Grand-daughter, the enquirer, seeks relatives in Ireland.

SHEEHY

Marcus Sheehy, born 1819, County Clare. Married circa 1847 Bridget Murphy, daughter of Peter and Kate (nee Murphy) Murphy. Arrived Melbourne 1884 in “Chimbarosa”. Settled at South Melbourne. Died 25 August 1887. Son, Michael Sheehy, born 1856, married Bridget Fitzgibbon, daughter of Maurice and Ellen (nee Mungan) Fitzgibbon, ancestor of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland.

HUTTON
Henry Hutton, born 1754 Dublin, later Lord Mayor of Dublin, son of Robert and Sarah (nee Lewis) Hutton, latter of Fishertown, Queen’s County. Married, firstly, Elizabeth Susannah Barber; secondly, in St Michan’s, Dublin, 4 July 1780, Olivia Mason. Son, Rev John Hutton, born 1783, married Jane Burton of Clifton, County Clare. Their son, Rev Michael Hutton, married Mary Woodcock and were parents of John Hutton who arrived in Melbourne, 27 July 1861 in “Kent” and married Ann Jane bell, great-grandparents of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland, England, Australia and New Zealand.

KAVANAGH
Lawrence Kavanagh, born 1833, Rathvilly, County Carlow, son of John and Margaret (nee Molloy) Kavanagh. To Sydney where in St Mary’s Cathedral married 14 October 1861 Eliza McLeod from Scotland. She died 1876 and he in 1877 leaving five children under 14 years. Son, Alexander Kavanagh, born 1866, married Ellen Winifred Kelleher, daughter of John and Mary (nee Leahy) Kelleher, both from County Clare and are grandparents of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland and Australia.

MONTGOMERY
Leah Montgomery, born 1780, Ireland, married 1806 Rev George Hansbrow of the Diocese of Clogher. Daughter, Mary Anne Hansbrow, born 1808, married Edward Beere, son of Daniel and Margaret (nee Butler) Beere. Their daughter, Louisa Margaret Beere married 1871 Michael Colman O’Loghlen, ancestors of enquirer who seeks relatives in Ireland.

O’BRIEN
Michael O’Brien, son of John and Mary (nee McNamara) O’Brien, married 1841 Mary Hogan, born at Doonass in the parish of Kiltenanlea, County Clare, daughter of Michael and Bridget (nee McKeogh) Hogan. Arrived Melbourne circa 1854. New book: “Robert Sarjeant Balmer,” by Patrica A. Degens is a very well researched history of the family of R.J. Balmer, born 1827 in County Clare, probably in the ancestral home of Mary Ann Sarjeant, at Newmarket, County Clare, married in St Martins-in-the-Fields, London; arrived in Adelaide 1849; went to Bendigo gold-fields about 1857 where he opened the first school at Golden Gully. Daughter, Emily, married first cousin Benjamin Balmer in New Zealand; otherswent to the U.S.A. Family related to the Blennerhassets. The Balmers go back to 1305. Excellent photographs of many including the wedding of Helen Ferguson, the daughter of family member Mary Raeburn Balmer (1879 – 1969) who married Mephan John Ferguson. Helen married 8 November 1945 Sir Edward (Weary) Dunlop, CMG, OBE, FRCS, Melbourne’s most notable military personality of today whose work in the prisoner-of-war camps in Java, Malaya and Siam, 1942 – 1945, is legendary.
