Qui . me . fieri . fecer | Quor aiaru . ppicietr . De Et . obiit . ifte . Jaco . III . die | decebr Ano . Dni . 1600 aeta sue . XII . Quisq . es . q . trane | p me diu su qd eris . fu[e]ra qd es . pro . me . precor . ora.” [Raised black letter.] And on one of the side stones, now removed to the graveyard:— “Hec tuba fra erat Ano 1605.”
The next tablet, though of worse execution and more defaced, closely resembles the above,—each having the crucifix in the middle of the inscription and being in raised black letter:— “conditur hoc tumulo Tha….…s cognomine Rodan | cor [illegible; Mr. Frost reads it ‘sibi dum vixit, criminis insons, but the second and third words seem more like s q bi dub, and the next is broken away] er | Anno mileno sers centeno junge quibus VIII | ter quinis Junio pocula nigra bibit | Hane fieri tumbam: fecit post funcra coniur | cius Anina gente i Machon an dn 1619.” “Here lies the body of | IGNATIUS ROCHFORD dec ye 11 November Ano | Domini 1731 in the 76 year | of his age also the body of | his wife CHRISTIAN | who departed Dec ye …………Ano Domini 1723…………...……daughter………” The following are given by Rev. Diocese of Killaloe,” pp. Kilfinaghty—Sixmilebridge Parish Church. “STAY . GENTLE . READER . DROP . A . TEAR FOR . PIOUS . DUST . LIES . BURIED . HERE A . VERTUOUS . WYFE . A . PRUDEN . MOTHER AND . ZEALOUS . SAYNT . LIE . HERE . TOGETHER . . . . . . . . . IER . . . . . . . . . T . . . . . . . . . THEN . COURTEOUS . READER . CEASE . TO MOANE KATIERIN . COTTER . WIFE . TO . RICHARD COTTER . DEPARTED . THIS . LIFE . THE . 19 DAY . OF . OCTOBER . 1679.” “Here lies the Body of Miss MARY HICKMAN who departed this life the 13 day of May 1771 Aged 28 years. Erected by her brother ROBET HICKMAN.” |
