Kilshanny Parish

Kilshanny Cell, near Ennistymon—
This was an ancient pre-Norman church made a cell to the Abbey of S. Maria De Petra Fertile or Corcomroe; its bell is preserved in the British Museum.

North wall, in raised capitels:—
“I. H. S. — MEMENTO MORI.
I WAS AS YOU ARE AND YOU WILL BE AS I AM
THIS TOMB WAS ERECTED BY JEREMIAH
THYNNE FOR HIMSELF AND HIS
FAMILY ANNO DO 1717.”

In recess in north wall:—
“Here lies the body of AUGUSTIN THYNN who departed | ye year 1720 MARY O LOUGHLEN wife of JOHN THYNN the eldest son of the said AUGUSTIN THYNN dyed in the | year 1751 and 2, Dated this 10th day of Jany 1752.”
