Ui Fearmaic Kilnamona Parish In the townland of the same name stand the remains of the old church of Kilnamona (Church of the bog), which yet continue in a state of tolerable preservation. At a little distance is a holy well dedicated to St. Lachtain, the same whose festival is observed at Freshford, in the county of Kilkenny, on the 19th of March. This parish is unusually destitute of objects of antiquity, only the castle of Magowna, belonging in 1580 to Mahone O’Dea, and that of Shallee, owned the same year by Brien Duv. O’Brien, standing within its boundaries. |
