Ui Ronghaile The district now under consideration is frequently mentioned in the Wars of Thomond as the patrimonial inheritance of the family of O’Shanahan, an important branch of the race of the Ui Bloids. They were driven out in the year 1318, and their territory was added to that of their enemies, the MacNamaras. It is evident from MacNamara’s Rental that Ui Ronghaile comprised the parishes of Kilnoe and Killuran in the fifteenth century, but before the O’Shanahan’s were evicted it was certainly more extensive, and there is good reason to suppose that it contained the greater part of the country afterwards given to the Cinel Donghaile or O’Gradys.
