Smart phone classes for Older People
Sweeney Memorial Library, Kilkee from 2.30pm to 4.30pm

Smart Phone Classes will take resume in Kilkee Library for four weeks, starting the 2nd November. The tutor will answer queries you may have with regard to using your smartphones, downloading apps, mobile banking, zoom, or other areas that are of interest to participants. Programme will include a session on Zoom video conferencing and the WhatsApp platform so that participants can learn how to connect with others and how to avail of online classes, activities and apps. The tutor-led classes will be of two hours’ duration. Numbers at the classes are limited due to current restrictions. Irish Sign Language, 8 week basic course: Lesson 3 - A Healthy Ireland at your Library event.
Online event 6pm – 7pm

Irish Sign Language (ISL) is Ireland's third official language and is estimated to be used by as many as 45,000 people on a regular basis. Our 8-week ISL Basic course is taught by fully qualified ISL teachers and will give you a foundation to the language. The lessons will focus on your understanding of ISL as well as your ability to sign basic vocabulary and sentences, and there will be a certificate of attendance issued by the Irish Deaf Society upon successful completion of the course.
Free event for people throughout Co Clare aged 18+. Places are limited, booking is essential.
In order to take part, participants will require remote access to Zoom. Please book your place by emailing kilrush@clarelibrary.ie or by calling Kilrush Library on 065 9051504 during branch opening hours.

Back for the Future STEM Escape Room – A Science Week Event
Seán Lemass Public Library, Shannon from 4pm

BiOrbic, Ireland’s National Bioeconomy Research Centre, brings you Back for the Future, an escape room type game. The theme of the escape room is climate change and players save the planet by solving a variety of puzzles based on real research projects at the BiOrbic centre that will help Ireland be sustainable . Researchers from BiOrbic will be available afterwards to chat about the science behind the puzzles and answer your questions.
Each game will last approx. 40 minutes and can accommodate up to 6 people. Participants should be approx. 12+ years and accompanied by at least one adult, ideal for family groups with older children. Exhibition: Papers of Commandant Joseph Barrett

This exhibition looks at the Joseph Barrett archive which was found in Kilrush in 2019. Joseph Barrett (1888-1971) served as Commandant of the Mid Clare Brigade and Dr. Paul O’Brien of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick has exhibited some of the archive’s highlights.
