Undoubtedly, this handbook is one of
the most charming little volumes I've seen in a very long time. It was
first published in 1876 and it has reappeared in print thanks to CLASP,
which in recent years has republished several books about the Clare area.
It was written as a guide book for visitors
to Lisdoonvarna, once famous for its health spas but now better known
for its bachelor festival. The handbook has a marvellous amount of information.
Above all, it is the kind of local history publication which every town
or village would love to have.
