John Bartley, Australian soldier in WW1, who visited his Moloney relatives
in Co Clare, John Moloney married Mary Bartley, Cloonlara in the parish of
Kiltenanlea, Co Clare.
Costello.
Daniel, born circa 1830 Co Kerry, son of Mary Costello (nee Irwin?). Arrived
Sydney 1853 in “Talvera” with widowed mother, sisters Margaret
(19) and Catherine (16) and brother Patrick (10). Married West Maitland NSW
1857, Bridget, daughter of Michael and Mary Walsh of Co Clare. Nine children:
Catherine Costello born 1873 married Henry Daniel Stenz. Nine children of
whom Kathleen Stenz married Thomas Fraser-Byass.

Richard born 1820 Co Clare. Married in Kilmaley near Ennis 1845, Bridget born
1824 of Ennistymon. Six children: Patrick, born 1846 married Agnes Sherlock
at Geelong 1879, no children. Mary married Colac 1874, Michael Brady, 7 children.
John married Ellen Fitzgerald at Ennis Co Clare 1895, 3 children. Michael,
born 1860, married Essendon, Hannah Lee Murray, 6 children of whom Richard
Murray Daffy, born Coburg 1894 married Ivy Gwladys Anna Potts.
Fitzgerald.
Mary Ann born circa 1834 Ballingarry, Co Limerick, daughter of Thomas and Mary
(nee Hogan) Fitzgerald. Brother Thomas arrived Sydney in “Royal Saxon” 1848.
Mary Ann came from workhouse in Ballingarry, arriving Sydney 1850 in “Tipoo
Saib” and became a dealer and grocer. Married 1856 Richard John, son
of Henry and Sarah (nee Cook) Kimber of Portsea, Hampshire, England. Children:
Henry 1860, Sarah Ann, Mary J, Richard, William, Michael and Florence 1876.
Died Sydney 1909. Daughter Sarah Ann born 1862 married Benjamin, son of Patrick
and Mary (McInerney) O’Brien of Moynoe, Co Clare. 11 children of whom
Mary born 1884 married George Myers.
Guerin.
John born Co Limerick, son of Michael Guerin. Mother’s maiden name was
Donelton. Married Co Clare circa 1851 Mary, daughter of Michael Kanavan. Arrived
Victoria circa 1852. Children: Daniel 1853, Michael, Bridget, Thomas, Mary
Anne, Ellen, James. Buried Creswick 1896. Daughter Bridget born Geelong married
1877 John, son of John and Catherine (nee Delaney) Gleeson from Nenagh, Co
Tipperary. Eleven children of whom Ellen, born Swanwater, St Arnaud 1885 married
Kalgoorlie WA Charles Percival Cox.

Mary born circa 1834 Co Wexford, daughter of Hugh and Johanna (nee Malone)
Hanlon. Married Fitzroy Victoria 1852, Thomas Good from Brighton, England.
Storekeeper at Kangaroo Flat. Died 1898.Children: Mary Elizabeth 1853, George
William, Martha Ellen, Thomas, Sarah Elizabeth 1860, all of whom were born
in the Bendigo area. George William born 1854 married Bridget, daughter of
Matthew and Catherine (nee Hartigan) McInerney from Co Clare. Seven children
of whom Catherine Ann born 1890 married Thomas David McKay.

Ann (nee Casey) O’Shannassy. Settled South Melbourne Victoria. Eight
children of whom John James born 1861 married 1892 Julia, daughter of Michael
and Margaret (nee Connors) Shine of Hotham, Victoria. Eight children. Charles
Joseph born1906 South Melbourne married (1) Lilly Watkins: married 1939 South
Melbourne (2) Margaret Barr.

Michael born circa 1827 Co Clare, son of Patrick and Julia (nee Long) Kane.
Married 1856 Newtown, Co Mayo, Mary, daughter of Patrick Costello of Co Clare.
Arrived Melbourne 1858 in “The Tasmania”. Miner at Miner’s
Rest near Ballarat; died Ballarat 1906. Children, Catherine 1861, Bridget,
Patrick, Michael Thomas, Julia, Frederick 1874. Patrick James Kane born 1863,
married 1892, Martha, daughter of Samuel King of Norwich, England and his
wife Ellen (nee Dunne) from Co Tipperary. Patrick and Martha had ten children
and Kathleen born 1894 married Thomas Willian McCarthy.
Morris.
John born 1837, married Co Tyrone 1859, Catherine (nee O’Donnell) Donnelly.
Arrived Victoria circa 1866; labourer Ballarat area .Children: Margaret, Rose,
John, William/Patrick, Edward, James, Susan, Mary Ann, William Henry, Matilda
Jane, Daniel 1879. John born Co Tyrone 1865 married Ballarat 1886, Mary Ann
O’Brien, daughter of William O’Brien of Nenagh, Co Tipperary and
Mary (McNamara) of Co Clare who married Geelong Victoria 1854. John and Mary
Ann Morris had eleven children of whom Mary Jane born Ballarat 1887, married
1910 James Whitehand.
Shannon.
Hugh born circa 1826, Co Antrim. Arrived Hobart Tasmania in “Neptune” 1850.
Married Emerald Hill Victoria 1852, Mary Keating, who came to Australia 1850
from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford in “Eliza Caroline”. At Bass as overseer
to landholder Michael Pender until death 1856. Two daughters Mary Jane and
Sarah Ann. Widow married Edwin West of Bass. Two children: Sarah Ann Shannon,
born Bass 1855, married Cranbourne 1870, Patrick, born 1843 Co Clare, son of
John and Elizabeth (O’/McLoughlin) Murphy from Lisdoonvarna and Corofin.

Winters.
Robertborn circa 1839 Athlone, Co Westmeath, son of John or Job and Ann (nee
Mills) Winters. Moved to Co Clare and then possibly Prohurst, Kilbolane,
Co Cork. Brother Henry born circa 1937 and emigrated to Melbourne 1854 and
became a goldminer at Palmer River Qld and Temora NSW. Married Caroline Bates
and had eight children.

Breen.
James born circa 1857, son of Simon and Marie (nee McMahon) of Kiltumper, Co
Clare. Migrated to NSW where he was a hotelkeeper, storekeeper and wagon driver
around Surry Hills and Alexandria. Married 1893 at St Mary’s Cathedral,
Ellen O’Grady, daughter of James and Norah (nee Ryan) O’Grady of
Burt Hill, Co Tipperary. Died 1913 in horse and cart accident. Four children.
Joseph born 1894 married 1920, Lillian Leber. Seven children of whom Joseph
Allan married Fay Robertson.
Haren.
Robert born circa 1814 Miltown Malbay, Co Clare, son of Patrick and Mary (nee
Kean) Haren. Married 1840 Carrigaholt, Mary McGrath. Arrived 1854 Melbourne
with children Ann 1842, Patrick and Catherine 1852. Had “Munster Arms
Hotel” in Little Bourke Street for some years. Robert died 1869, Mary
died 1897. Ann born 1842 married 1861, James Browne and had children Sarah,
Robert, Mary, William, John, Edward. John married 1909 Ellen Gutherie.
Kenna.
Patrick born 1839 Scarriff, Co Clare, son of Edmund and Johanna (nee Mulready)
Kenna. Arrived Melbourne Victoria 1861. Married 1864 Geelong, Bridget Cummins,
daughter of Patrick and Bridget Cummins of Cliffoney, Co Sligo. Children:
Edmund 1866, Francis, Michael, Margaret, John, Patrick, Joseph, James, Thomas,
Katherine, William 1886. Died Ballangeich 1895. Son James born 1880 married
Bridget Lourey, daughter of John and Mary (nee Nolan). Six children of whom
James born 1923 Terang, married 1947, Kathleen O’Keeffe.
McMahon.
Martin born circa 1829 Co Clare, son of Daniel and Mary (nee Linehan) McMahon.
Convicted 1849 Sixmilebridge, Co Clare of killing sheep. Arrived Fremantle
WA 1853 in “Phoebe Dunbar” with John McMahon. Married 1859 York
WA, Ellen Breen/Brien from Co Tipperary who arrived 1859 in Bride Ship “Hamilla
Mitchell”, Children born WA: John 1861, Thomas 1863. Following conditional
pardon, left WA to start afresh in SA where Children born; Michael circa
1864, Daniel, James and Margaret Esther “Etta” McMahon 1877,
who married 1898 Broken Will NSW, James Barron, son of Edward and Mary (nee
Docherty) Barron of Co Donegal. Daughter Ellen Barron born 1899 Broken Hill
married 1929 WA, William Frederick McIntosh.

Dennis born circa 1810 Kilkishen Co Clare, Ireland. Married Bridget Donnellan;
children Thomas 1837, Patrick 1939, Bridget 1840, all baptised Kilkishen.

Honorah born circa 1817, married circa 1840 at Killaloe, Co Clare, Thomas McKeogh.
Seven children. Eldest five to Nelson New Zealand on “Howrath or Howrah”.

John Fitzpatrick born 1831 Co Clare, son of Anthony and Ellen (nee Gallery)
O’Dwyer. Arrived Melbourne 1855. Storekeeper then surveyor at Bendigo
where married 1866 Margaret McGrath, daughter of James and Margaret (nee
Fogarty) McGrath from Co Wicklow. Children: Anthony 1867, Margaret, Eileen,
Mary, Kathleen, John, Ida, Nicholas, James, Bedelia 1888. Nicholas William
O’Dwyer born 1882 White Hills married Kensington, England 1913 Hilda
Birchenough, daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (nee Jones) Birchenough from
the Isle of Wight. Only child Nicholas William born 1914 London, England
married 1939 Mosman, NSW Hazel Georgina Isherwood.

Patrick Costello, born circa 1808 in County Cork, the son of Michael and Bridget
(nee Holleran) Costello. Married, 1837, Margaret Hoodlock, daughter of Mary
McGuire of County Clare. Arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, 1838 in “Magistrate”.
Children Patrick, born 1840, John, Michael, Mary. Settled at Blayney. Michael,
born 1844, married Mary Dawes in 1878, the daughter of William and Emily Dawes
of Orange, New South Wales. Hotel keeper at Eugowra. Eight children of whom
Frances Borgia Costello married Edgar Brunker in 1916.
Cronin.
Michael Cronin, born 1838 in Blackwater, St Patrick’s parish, County
Clare, the son of James and Julia (nee McAdams) Cronin. Married in 1861 at
Cappalaheen Mary McGrath, the daughter of Dennis and Bridget (nee Murphy) McGrath.
Children Bridget, 1861, James, John, Patrick, Michael, Sarah, Jane, Maria,
Dennis, William. Left from County Limerick in “Maria Somes”, arrived
in South Africa where they lived for four years. Arrived in Auckland, New Zealand,
1864, in “Steinwaerder”. Settled at Waipipi, New Zealand. Son Michael,
born 1868, married in 1902 Sarah McAneney, the daughter of Daniel and Catherine
(nee Mackle) McAneney and had ten children of whom Henry, born 1905, married
Elva Waldron in 1930.
Goonan.
Essay on the Goonan family. “County Clare to Dederang.” Traces
the four Goonan brothers (their mother Hanorah Watson) from Ballyhinch, parish
of Clonrush, County Clare to Australia commencing in the 1850s.
Goonan.
Henry Goonan, born 1826, Ballyhinch, Clonrush, County Clare, son of Michael
and Honorah (nee Watson) Goonan, from County Galway. Arrived in Melbourne
in 1854 from Liverpool, England, in “Miles Barton”. Married at
Beechworth in 1859 Bridget Tuohy, the daughter of Patrick and Margaret (nee
Rooney) Tuohy from Ballynahinch. Children Micheal, 1860, Patrick, John Patrick,
Hanorah, Margaret, Mary, Brigid, Henry, Thomas, Catherine, 1880. John Patrick
Gooonan (born 1865) married Catherine Carroll in 1898, the daughter of John
and Mary (nee Lordan) Carroll from County Cork and had six children of whom
John Goonan, born 1913, married Rose Clemens.
Guthrie.
Thomas Guthrie, born 1846 in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, the son of Patrick
and Ann (nee Hill) Guthrie. Married at Ballarat, Victoria, in 1871 his cousin
Honora Mullins, born 1848 in Lahinch, County Clare, the daughter of Patrick
and Bridget (Guthrie) Mullins. Thomas Guthrie’s two sisters: Margaret
Guthrie married Daniel Ardagh in Victoria in 1870 and Brigid Guthrie married
Thomas Fitzgerald. Thomas and Honora Guthrie had eight children born at Ballarat:
Patrick, Annamarie (married Frank Walle), Thomas (married Cilla Cornish),
Jack (married Kitty Keogh), Michael, Andre (married Rose Convey), Francis,
Sarah Jane (married Albert Churchman).
Hehir.
John Hehir, born circa 1856 in Kilrush County Clare, the son of John and Margaret
(nee Murphy) Hehir. Arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, 1876 in “Dilharree”.
Married in 1883 Mary Boland, the daughter of Patrick and Anne (nee Moloney)
Boland from Kilmahon, County Clare. Children John, 1884, Annie, twins Thomas
and Patrick, Bridget, Mary, Margaret, Lucy, Kathleen, Michael, William, 1902.
Bridget, born 1888, married at Toowoomba in 1917 John Scanlan, the son of
Thomas and Margaret (nee Gavin) Scanlan from Kildysart, County Clare and
had seven children of whom Lillian Scanlan, born 1925, married John Hegarty.
Jephson.
Ann Frances Jephson, born 1857, the daughter of George and Hannah (nee Enright)
Jephson of Listowel, County Kerry. Brother, John Jephson, arrived in South
Australia in 1875 in “Lady Jocelyn”. Ann left from Plymouth,
England, in “Robert Lees” and arrived in Adelaide, South Australia
in 1877. Married firstly in 1878 Peter Carlsen from Finland (their son, Charles
Carlsen); and married secondly, Andrew Schar from Switzerland and had children
Elizabeth, 1879, Ann, Lillie, August, Jepson Leopold (Leo), 1890. Eliza married
in 1902 Thomas Sheridan, the son of Michael and Mary (nee Grady) Sheridan
from Ballyvaughan, County Clare. Eliza and Thomas had eight children of whom
Marion Sheridan, born 1909, married Robert Francey in 1932.
McInerney.
Mary McInerney, born circa 1823 in Kilnoe, County Clare, the daughter of Thomas
and Hannah McInerney. She married in Bodyke, County Clare, 1850, Patrick
O’Brien, the son of Benjamin O’Brien. Arrived in Sydney, New
South Wales, in 1850 in “Thetis”. Mary’s sister Ellen McInerney
was already in Sydney. Children Benjamin, 1855, Jeremiah. Saddler, died Camperdown
in 1882. Their son Benjamin O’Brien married Sarah Kimber, the daughter
of Richard and Mary Ann (nee Fitzgerald) Kimber. Eleven children of whom
eldest, Mary, born 1884, married George Myers.
McInerney.
Essay, ‘Tales of old Walhalla’. Mary McInerney, from Knockatinty,
parish of Clonlea, County Clare, married James Barry of County Cork in 1863.
Seven children of whom only three survived to adult life.
McMahon.
Mary McMahon, born circa 1825 in Feakle, County Clare, the daughter of Thomas
and Bridget (nee Hassett) McMahon. Arrived in Hobart in 1851 in “Calcutta” with
her sister Winifred McMahon. Married, firstly, Patrick O’Rourke from
Killenumery, County Leitrim, the son of Cornelius and Honorah (nee Foley)
O’Rourke. Children born in Tasmania Cornelius, 1854, Patrick, 1856
and children born in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, John, 1858, Michael, Terence,
Daniel, Frank, Thomas, 1867. Married, secondly, in 1878, a man named Farrell.
Her son Daniel O’Rourke, born 1863, married Amelia Woodger in 1902,
the daughter of Robert and Keturah (nee Hilder) Woodger of Camden.
Prendergast.
Michael Prendergast, born circa 1818 in Crusheen, County Clare, the son of
Martin Prendergast. A convict. Left Dublin in 1838 in “Elphinstone” and
arrived in Sydney, New South Wales and settled at Braidwood. Married in 1843
in Bungonia, Mary McGinnis from County Armagh. Children Margaret, 1844, John
and Patrick / William, born 1847, who married in 1868 in Castlemaine, Victoria,
Jemima Blunt, the daughter of Thomas and Keziah (nee Pearson) Blunt from
Kent, England.
Tuohy / Toohey.
Margaret Tuohy, born circa 1834 in Clonlea, County Clare, the daughter of Michael
and Johanna (nee Cunningham) Tuohy. Married, firstly, circa 1857 in Melbourne,
Victoria, Patrick Hill from County Kildare. Children Mary Ann, born circa
1858 at Woodend, Joanna, Ellen, Patrick, 1862. Mary Ann Hill married in 1881
Daniel Long, the son of John and Ellen (nee Richardson) Long from County
Tipperary and had six children of whom Catherine Long, born 1890 at Fitzroy,
married Frederick Cameron in 1909. Their son, Frederick Cameron, born 1917,
married Kathleen Hughes in Innisfail, Queensland, in 1947. Margaret Tuohy
Hill married, secondly, Michael Washington.
Walker.
David Walker, born 1838 in Raphoe, County Donegal, the son of William Walker.
Married, firstly, Mary Campbell (and had a daughter, Elizabeth); and married,
secondly, in Belfast circa 1868, Isabella Shaw, the daughter of Robert Christie
Shaw and his wife Martha Moore from County Derry. Arrived in Melbourne, Victoria,
in 1868 with Isabella and Elizabeth in “The Liberty” and settled
near Yea. Thirteen children of whom William Christy Walker, born 1872, married
in 1905 Delia Kenny, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (nee Nihill) Kenny
from County Clare. William Christy and Delia Walker had four children of
whom the eldest, William David Walker, born 1906, married Vera Reynolds in
Perth, Western Australia.

Bridget Bellett, born County Clare, the daughter of John and Honora (nee Burke)
Bellett. Arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, from Liverpool in 1854 in “Black
Eagle”. Married in Castlemaine in 1856 John Morris from Plymouth, England,
the son of John and K. (nee Fitzpatrick) Morris. Children John, 1857, Mary
Ann, Ellen, Jeremiah, Henry, Joseph, 1869. Henry Morris, born 1867, married
Ethel Dooly, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (nee Taylor) Dooly of
New South Wales.
Boland.
Mary Boland, born circa 1861 in Kilmahon / Ennis, County Clare, the daughter
of Patrick Boland and his second wife, Anne Moloney. Left London in 1877
in “Stirlingshire” and arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1878
with her brother Thomas Boland. Her sisters Anne, Kate, Bridget and Margaret
also came to Australia. She married in 1883 in Toowoomba John Hehir, from
Kilrush, County Clare, the son of John and Margaret (nee Murphy) Hehir. Children
John, 1884, Annie, Thomas and Patrick, Bridget, Mary, Margaret, Kathleen,
Lucy, Michael, William, 1902. Daughter Bridget Ida Hehir, born 1888, married
John Joseph Scanlan in 1917, the son of Thomas and Margaret (nee Gavin) Scanlan
from Kildysart, County Clare. Seven children of whom Lillian Margaret Scanlan,
born 1925, married John Francis Hegarty in 1951.
Byrne.
Pierce Byrne, born Ireland, the son of Thomas and Catherine (nee Hanlon) Byrne.
Married firstly at Rathdrum, County Wicklow, Margaret Ratford and had children
Catherine, 1833, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, 1839. Married, secondly, at Dublin
Anne (Keegan) Kenny, the daughter of William and Margaret Keegan and their
daughter Sarah was born in Rathdrum in 1850. Arrived in Sydney in 1856 in “David
McIver”. Settled at Pyrmont; died 1884 in Balmain. Son Joseph married
at Taree in 1872 Harriet Wooton, son of Thomas and Mary (nee O’Donnell)
Wooton, he from Staffordshire, England and she from County Clare. Children
all born at Wingham, Thomas, 1872, Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, Catherine, Edith,
Joseph Pierce, Harriet, Arthur, 1888. Joseph Pierce (born 1893) married firstly
at Taree Margaret Fahey and secondly in 1926 in Taree Elsie Bulley.
Dane.
Margaret Dane, born circa 1837, in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, the daughter
of George and Anne (nee Farland) Dane. Arrived in 1858 in Melbourne, Victoria,
in “Rooney” and settled in Bendigo area. Married in 1858 in Castlemaine
Richard Surtees, the son of George and Jane (nee Dinning) Surtees from Northumberland,
England. Children Jane, 1859, Emily, Margaret, twins Elizabeth and George,
George, 1868. Died 1886. Elizabeth Surtees (born 1866) married John Slattery
in 1887, the son of Thomas Slattery from Ennistymon, County Clare and Catherine
Hayes from Miltown Malbay, County Clare. Elizabeth and John had seven children
of whom Mollie Slattery, born 1899, married Archibald Law in Malvern in 1927.
Halloran.
Patrick Halloran, born circa 1805 in Tulla, County Clare, the son of James
and Kate (nee McNamara) Halloran. He married, circa 1827, Mary, the daughter
of Darby and Kate (nee Ferlin) Doogan / Dongan. Children born in County Clare
Bridget, 1828, Michael, Catherine, Margaret. Elizabeth Halloran was born
at sae in 1839. The family arrived in Sydney in 1839 in “Alquis”.
Children born in Australia Mary, 1841, Patrick, James, 1847. Settled at Mulgoa.
Daughter Elizabeth Halloran married, firstly, William Job Clarke from Bristol,
England (children William, Michael, John, David, Thomas, Sydney, George,
1878); and she married, secondly, at Gunnedah in 1889, John Sceales. Died
in 1921 in Barraba. Her son John Adolphus Clarke married in 1899 in Bingara
Clar May Wall.
Keating.
Bridget Keating, born circa 1840 in Kilrush, County Clare, the daughter of
Patrick and Norah (nee Flanagan) Keating. Arrived in Sydney in 1862 in “Ocean
Empress” with Margaret Keating. Servant at Queanbeyan. She married
in 1864 James O’Connor from County Limerick, the son of Thomas and
Bridget (nee Stack) O’Connor. Children Mary Ann, 1865, Bridget, Thomas,
Francis, Anne, Hannora, Sarah, Margaret, John, 1878. Died in 1916 in Ashfield,
Sydney. Daughter Sarah Jane O’Connor, born 1876 at Queanbeyan, married
John Francis Lawler in 1900, the son of James and Catherine (nee Commins)
Lawler from County Clare.
Killeen.
Patrick Killeen, born circa 1813 in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, the son of
William and Honora (nee Cosgrove) Killeen. Married in 1841 Mary Hickey, the
daughter of John and Mary (nee Burgess) Hickey. Children born in Ireland
William, 1842, Patrick, Mary, James, Brigid, twins Michael and Honora, 1853,
Margaret, 1855. Left Plymouth in 1857 in “Victor” and arrived
in Belfast (Port Fairy), Victoria. Children born at Casterton Ellen, 1859,
Susan, 1862. Died in 1896 in Queensland. Daughter Margaret married Henry
Veron, the son of Henry Veron from Brittany and Anna Maria, nee Stewart,
from St Mary’s, Dublin. Had eight children of whom Suzanne (born 1894
at Bundaberg, Queensland) married Percy Hill in 1919 at Guildford, New South
Wales.
McInerney.
John McInerney, born circa 1828 in County Clare, the son of Patrick, stonemason,
and Mary (nee Considine) McInerney. Married in Liverpool, England, in 1854,
Ellen Roonan from Kilmacduagh parish, Gort, County Galway, the daughter of
James Roonan, in the Fencibles, Howick, New Zealand and Mary (nee Garry)

wife and daughters Mary and Margaret, arriving in 1874 in Napier, New Zealand;
sons Thomas, James and Michael arrived on latter ships. James, born 1857,
married in Napier in 1881 Bridget Welch, the daughter of Peter Welch and
Bridget (nee McMahon) Welch from County Clare. Eleven children of whom Elizabeth,

Catherine Thompsn, born circa 1849 in Miltown, possibly County Clare, the daughter

Zealand circa 1866. Married in Hokitika in 1866 to Henry Robinson from Hackney,
London, the son of Henry and Ada (nee Bouter) Robinson. Children all born

Harold Robinson (born 1870) married Sarah Adamson at Ross in 1896, the daughter

Ann (nee Cody) Brennan. Married circa 1846 at Thomastown Mary Hackett, the

Arrived in Australia circa 1856. John Brennan married in 1873 in Toowoomba,
Queensland, Margaret Balsillie, the daughter of John Balsillie from St Andrew’s,
Scotland and Catherine Condon from Ennis, County Clare. Ten children of whom
the eldest, John James Brennan, born 1874, married Anne Larracy in 1904.

John Chambers, born 1844 in County Clare, the son of John and Mary (nee Killeen)
Chambers. Arrived in Australia circa 1870, possibly with his brother Michael.

Mary Bartley, married in Kiltenanlea, County Clare in 1820 John Moloney. The
Bartley and Moloney families left Clonlara, Doonass, Kiltenanlea, County
Clare. A descendant, an Australian soldier, John Bartley, born 1890s, in
Gunning or Orange, New South Wales, visited Moloney cousins in Clonlara during
the First World War. The Bourkes from Derryhasna, Castleconnell, County Limerick,
were a related family. Bridget Bourke married John Moloney in the 1820s.
Henery.
Edward Joseph Henery, born circa 1856 at Cloonow, Athlone, County Westmeath,
the son of Edward and Mary (nee Duning) Henery. Edward arrived in Sydney,
New South Wales, in 1877 in “Lochee”. A railway worker. Married
in 1884 at Tumut Mary McGrath, the daughter of James McGrath from County
Kilkenny and Ellen (nee Howe) McGrath from Miltown Malbay, County Clare.

of John and Mary (nee Burgess) Hickey. Married in 1841 Patrick Killeen, the
son of William and Honora (nee Cosgrove) Killeen. Children William, 1842,
Patrick, Mary, James, Michael and Honora, Margaret, 1855. Arrived Belfast
(Port Fairy), Victoria, in 1857 in “Victory” settling at Muntham
Station, Casterton, where Ellen was born in 1859 and Susan in 1862. Died
in 1903 in Boxgrove, Dalby, Queensland. Margaret Killeen married in 1882
at Dalby Henry Veron, the son of Henry Veron from St Servan, Brittany, France
and Anna Maria (nee Stewart) Veron. Eight children. Suzanne Veron (born 1896
at Bundaberg) married Percy Hill in 1919 at Guildford, New South Wales.
Hurley.
Daniel Hurley, born 1834 in County Cork, the son of Lawrence and Bridget (nee
Hannen) Hurley from County Clare. Arrived in 1858 at Melbourne from Liverpool,
England, settling near Ararat. Daniel married Ellen Halpin from Lavington,
New South Wales, the daughter of John and Catherine (nee Brady) Halpin. Children
John, 1875, Katherine, Margaret, Ellen, Thomas, Daniel, Norah, Edward, Marion,
Robert, Sarah, Aileen, 1898. Aileen married Henry McAdam in Collingwood in
1928, the son of David and Jane (nee Jones) McAdam from Penola, South Australia.
Two children John, 1929 and Mary, 1931. John McAdam married Shirley Lyons
in 1952 in East St Kilda.
Longe.
James Longe, born Inagh parish, County Clare. The Longe family previously resided
in the Dysart area. James married, 8 April 1853, Bridget Rynne (or Ryan)
of Cloona. Related families were Enright, Hegarty, Meehan and Griffin.
Murphy.
James Murphy, born circa 1815 in County Clare, the son of Thomas and Mary Hester
(nee Scully) Murphy. Married in 1841 Bridget Stapelton, the daughter of cooper
Edward and Mary (nee O’Shannessy) Stapelton. Arrived in Melbourne in
1841 in “Middlesex”. Hotel keeper and farmer, lived at Merri
Creek (Northcote), Mt Moriac and Yawong. Children were all born at Merri
Creek John, 1843, Thomas, Mary (married a Gibney), Bridget (married a Brown),
and Ellen (born 1853 and married successively a McGregor and then a White).
James and Bridget died at Charleton. Son, John Murphy, married Margaret Donaghy
at Geelong in 1872, the daughter of Michael and Mary (nee McManus) Donaghy
from County Armagh. Three daughters of whom Frances, known as ‘Fan’,
married Peter Curren in 1898 at Charlton.
O’Brien.
Bridget O’Brien, a convict from County Clare transported in 1851 on “Blackfriar” to
Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania). Had a brother called Patrick. She married
Joseph Heathcote who deserted her in 1853. Her children Edith, George, Sarah
all took the surname Gregory.
Shallue / Shalloo.
Bridget Shallue, born circa 1848 in County Clare, the daughter of James and
Bridget Shallue. Arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, in “Shalimar” settling
at Port Fairy. She married in 1865 Patrick Devereux from Ennistymon, County
Clare, the son of Michael and Margaret (nee Barry) Devereux. Children Mary,
1866, Catherine, Bridget, Margaret, Michael, James, 1876. Mary Devereux married
Robert Barker in 1893 at Hawthorn, the son of Robert Barker from England
and his wife, Johanna Kennedy who was born in County Limerick. Eight children
of whom Joan Barker (born 1897) married Thomas Sinnott in Yambuk, Victoria,

the United States of America. He married Mary Danaher in Ballarat in 1862,
the daughter of John and Bridget (nee Crawford) Danaher from County Clare.

James Hanrahan, the son of Michael and Mary Hanrahan of Knockpatrick, County
Clare. James married Honora Salmon in 1865, the daughter of Daniel and Mary
(nee Kelly) Salmon of Ennistymon. Children Bridget Mary, 1864, Kate, Mary,
John Joseph, Michael, 1870. From Belfast via London to Maryborough, Queensland,
1874, in “Gauntlet”. Grazier in Ridgelands district where James
died in 1922. His son, Michael Hanrahan married Mary Ann O’Connor in
Wycarbah in 1902, the daughter of Daniel and Ellen (nee O’Brien) O’Connor.
Michael and Mary Ann had five children of whom Michael Hanrahan married Alice
Acutt at Rockhampton.

Daniel Kennedy, born circa 1832 at Coolmeen, Kilfiddane, County Clare, the
son of James and Honora (Bane?) Kennedy. Daniel married Bridget McMahon in
Preston, Lancashire, in 1854, the daughter of Michael and Mary (nee Clancy)
McMahon from Kildysart, County Clare. Arrived in Sydney in 1856 (via Liverpool)
in “David McIver”. Their children were Mary, born aboard ship
in 1855, Honora, 1857, Bundarra, New South Wales, James, Catherine, Susan,
1863. Daniel died in 1863 in Bundarra. Catherine Kennedy, born 1860, married
Timothy Ryan in 1878, Timothy the son of Michael Ryan from Callan, County
Kilkenny and his wife, Johanna Wallace from Mallow in County Cork (Michael
and Johanna married in 1839 in Woodville, near Maitland, New South Wales.)
Catherine and Timothy had ten children of whom Bridget Ryan (born 1882) married
Walter Elworthy in 1906.
McCallum.
Bridget Ann McCallum, born circa 1840 in Ennis, County Clare. Believed to have
arrived in South Australia, possibly with her parents Laurence and Honoria
(nee Maloney) McCallum and her siblings. Bridget Ann John Lucas in Ballarat
in 1862 and had children born in Victoria, George, Sarah, Elizabeth, John,
Norah, Rebecca, Mary Jane. Margaret Lucas was born in 1878 at Kapunda, South
Australia. Bridget Ann drowned in Balaklava, South Australia in 1881 and
the family moved back to Victoria.
McInerney.
Cornelius McInerney, born 1851 in County Clare, the son of Cornelius and Hannah
(nee Hennessy) McInerney. Arrived circa 1864 from New Zealand. A mail-coach
driver for Cobb & Co. Cornelius married Mary Brown in 1875 in Wagga Wagga,
New South Wales, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (nee Lynch) Brown. Cornelius
and Mary had children John, 1876, Patricia, Mary, Cornelius, Elizabeth, Peter,
Joseph, Charlotte, Julia, David, Catherine, 1904. Cornelius McInerney died
in 1915 in Tarcutta. Joseph (born 1889) married Olive Brown in 1913, the
daughter of Thomas Brown of Camden and Janet Stirrat from Glasgow, Scotland.
Six children of whom the eldest, Josephine (born 1913) married Andrew Makin
in 1936 in Canberra, ACT.

Margaret Mahar, born circa 1833 in County Clare, the daughter of Michael Mahar.
Arrived in Queensland in the early 1860s. Margaret married William Marks
at Darling Downs, circa 1866, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Percival)
Marks from London. They went to New Zealand where their children were born,
Thomas, 1867, Mary, William, Ellen, Margaret, John, Catherine, 1881. Margaret
Marks died at Hokitika in 1909. Mary Marks (born 1868) married Michael Miller
in 1887, the son of John and Jane (nee Hudson) Miller from Newbottle, Durham,
England. Mary and Michael had four daughters of whom Margaret Miller (born
1890) married William Barrow in 1906.

Michael Millane, born circa 1837 in Kilseily, County Clare, the son of James
and Bridget (nee Flynn) Millane. Arrived at Port Henry, Geelong, Victoria,
in 1862 in “Mangerton” with his parents and brothers Thomas,
John, Peter and Patrick. Michael worked as a miner and a farmer. Michael
married Winifred Bolton at Campbell’s Creek in 1861, the daughter of
James and Bridget (nee Walsil) Bolton from County Limerick. Children Mary
Ann, 1862, Emily, Margaret, John, Thomas, Annie, 1880. Mary Ann Millane married
Martin Moran in Melbourne in 1882, the son of Patrick Moran from Bellevue,
County Tipperary and Mary Egan from Rathcabin. Mary Ann and Martin had six
children of whom Walter Moran (born 1886) married Catherine Gardiner.
Moloney.
Patrick Moloney, born early 1800s in Kilkishen, County Clare, married Bridget
Collopy in 1839. Bridget’s mother’s name was Alice Bradley. Patrick
and Bridget had children born in Kilkishen John, 1842, Patrick, Hannah, Michael,
1851. To the United States of America (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Bowerston,
Ohio). Worked on newspapers and also on the railroad. Patrick died in 1861.

Son Michael Moloney (or Maloney) married Jane Conway in 1881, the daughter

Catherine O’Brien, born circa 1840 in Doonaha, County Clare, the daughter
of Denis and Margaret (nee Hennessy) O’Brien. Arrived in Sydney in 1860
in “Alfred”. Catherine worked as a dressmaker. She married James
Ryan in Picton in 1865, the son of Michael and Margaret (nee Hanrahan) Ryan
of Termon West, County Clare. Children Michael, 1867, Picton, Margaret, 1868,
Menangle, Denis, Mary, James, 1873. Catherine died in 1875 at Menangle. Denis
Ryan (born 1870) married Mabel Wallace in Sydney in 1891, the daughter of John
and Elizabeth (nee Boyd) Wallace and they had three children of whom James
Ryan (born 1893) married Ivy Pulle in Rockdale in 1916.
Quin / Quinn.
Michael John Quinn, senior, believed to have been born in County Clare. A soldier
in the 21st R.N.B. Fusiliers. Michael married Margaret O’Brien (or
Bryan) in 1829. They had three daughters born in Ireland who all died. Michael
John, junior, was born in 1833 in Chatham, England, Bridget, 1834, Hobart,
Tasmania, Ellen, 1834, Perth, Western Australia, James, 1837. He arrived
in Tasmania with convicts in 1833 and then went to Western Australia in 1834;
his wife died there in 1838. Michael Quinn, senior, died in Perth in 1876.
Michael John Ryan, junior, married Mary Hale in 1859, the daughter of Stephen
and Emma (nee Harding) Hale from Berkshire, England. They had nine children
of whom Eveline Quinn (born 1864) married soldier Thomas Newman in Narrogin,
Western Australia, in 1893.

Conroy. John married Bridget Minihan from Killaloe, County Clare. Children

from Limerick and arrived in Sydney in 1838 in “Strathfieldsaye” with
Catherine O’Neill, aged 22, in care. Children born in Yass, New South
Wales Martin, circa 1838, Michael, circa 1840. John and his wife Bridget
were murdered in Yass in 1868. Their son, Martin Conroy married Margaret
Quinn in 1868 in Maitland, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (nee Brophy)
Quinn and had ten children of whom Martin junior (born 1873) married Louise
Rooke in South Grafton in 1889.

John Frawley, born circa 1835 in County Clare, the son of James and Bridget
(nee Hehir) Frawley. John married Bridget Coffey in 1868 at Sale, Victoria,
the daughter of Michael and Susan (nee Vanston) Coffey. An inn-keeper and
farmer at The Heart. Their son James Frawley (born 1870) married Mary Pauling,
the daughter of Thomas and Mary (nee Walsh) Pauling. Their daughter Alma
Pauling married Richard Skene.
Hanrahan.
Michael Hanrahan, born in 1828 in County Clare, possibly in Scalpnagown or
Ballinruan, the son of Thomas and Bridget (nee Heath) Hanrahan. Michael arrived
in Victoria in 1854, possibly with his sister Margaret and brother. (Margaret
Hanrahan married a man named Powell.) Michael Hanrahan worked as a miner
at Ballarat. He married Mary McAllan (or McCallum) in 1862, the daughter
of Daniel and Susan (nee Callanan) McAllan. They settled at Bungaree and
had children Susanna, 1862, Thomas, Bridget (later Mother Anthony, CSB),
Daniel, Maria (later Mother Clare, CSB), Michael. Thomas Hanrahan (born1864)
married Brigid Hayden at Springbank in 1896, the daughter of James and Catherine
(nee Hogan) Hayden from Rathordan near Cashel, County Tipperary and Smythesdale,
Victoria. Thirteen children of whom Thomas Hanrahan (born 1902) married Catherine
Prendergast at Clark’s Hill in 1931.
Healy.
Michael Healy, born 1826 in County Limerick, the son of James and Catherine
(nee Murray) Healy. Michael married Johanna Quinn at Sandhurst, Victoria,
in 1858, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (nee McNamara) Quinn from Cappagh,
Sixmilebridge, County Clare. They had children John, circa 1858, James, Margaret,
Maria, 1866. Michael Healy died at Huntly in 1878. John Healy married Mary
Corcoran in Melbourne in 1884, whose mother Catherine was from County Cork.
John and Mary had eleven children of whom Francis James Healy (born 1891)
married Alice Oldroyd in Geelong in 1922 and they had five children.
Sullivan.
Thomas Owen Sullivan, born circa 1808, possibly in County Cork. Thought to
have arrived in Victoria with his first wife and three sons (who all died
before 1871) and one daughter. Thomas Owen Sullivan married, secondly, Mary
Anne Hone from London in 1871 at St Leonard’s, New South Wales and
they had sons born in Balmain, Owen Thomas, 1870, and Thomas John, 1874.
Thomas Owen Sullivan worked as a gardener and died at Parramatta in 1891.
Owen Thomas Sullivan, known as George O’Sullivan, married Alma M. McClellan
in Paddington in 1810, the daughter of James and Anastasia (nee Conroy) McClellan,
she from County Clare. Owen Thomas and Alma had six children of whom the
youngest, Patricia (born 1925 in Gladesville) married John J. Lynch in 1944.
Toohey / Tuohy.
Michael Toohey, born circa 1829, possibly in the parish of Feakle, County Clare,
the son of Thomas and Margaret (nee Hassett) Toohey. Michael arrived in Victoria
circa 1847. A tailor and farmer at Mepunga. He married Margaret Hardy at
Warrnambool in 1861, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (nee McNamara) Hardy
from Roadford, County Clare. Their children Patrick, 1863, Mary, Michael,
Elizabeth, Thomas, John, James and Ambrose, 1879. Michael Toohey died at
Warrnambool in 1919. Thomas Toohey (born 1871) married Elizabeth Morris in
1905, the daughter of William and Ellen (nee Healy) Morris. Thomas and Elizabeth
had eight children of whom Frederick Toohey (born 1910) married Mary Rowan
in 1941.

Adam Conn, born circa 1836 in Crossgar, County Down, the son of James Conn.
A private in the 20th Regiment of Foot (Indian Mutiny). Adam married Mary
Burns in Kilrush, County Clare, in 1859, the daughter of Edward Burns. Arrived
in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1883 in “Zamora” with children James,
born circa 1860, Robert, Honora, Richard, Sarah; Margaret and Mary-Anne were
already in Australia. Adam worked as a cab owner / driver in Townsville;
he died in Brisbane in 1917. Richard Conn (born in Ennis, County Clare, in
1878) married Eileen Hogan in 1900 in Townsville, the daughter of Denis and
Bridget (nee Caulfield) Hogan of Kilsheelan, County Tipperary. Richard and
Eileen had nine children of whom the eldest, Edmond Conn (born in Townsville
in 1901) married Olive McCabe in Charters Towers in 1921.

Daffy.
Michael Daffy, born 1860 at Ennis, County Clare, the son of Richard and Bridget
(nee Gallery) Daffy. Richard Daffy and Bridget Gallery married in Kilmaley,
County Clare, in 1845. Michael Daffy arrived in Australia with his eldest
brother Patrick circa 1878 and worked as a railwayman, living at Oakleigh
where he died in 1948. Michael married Hannah Lee Murray at Essendon in 1894,
the daughter of William (from Scotland) and Jane (nee Robison, from County
Tyrone) Murray. Children Richard, 1894, Coburg, William, Roy, Maurice, Leonard,
Allan, 1903, Moonee Ponds. The son of Richard and Ivy G.A. Potts was adopted
by Alexander E. Vurlow who married Ivy Potts in 1926.
Devine.
James Devine, born 1860 at Boyerstown, County Meath, the son of John and Mary
(nee Connell) Devine. James arrived in Sydney circa 1880 and spent some time
in the Tweed River district. He returned to Ireland and then arrived in Perth,
Western Australia in 1899 in “Orient” with his brother, Michael
Devine. James married Catherine Maloney in 1901. Catherine Maloney was born
in Whitegate, County Clare, in 1878, the daughter of Martin Maloney from
Clonrush, County Clare, and his wife, Bridget Guilfoyle from Scariff, County
Clare. James and Catherine’s children were Mary, 1902, Perth, James,
John, Kathleen, Michael, Joseph, Martin, Francis, Eileen, 1919. James Devine
worked as a dairyman and died in Perth in 1954. Kathleen, born 1908, married
Forrest A. Herbert at Albany in 1931, the son of Diggory J. and Mary (nee
Keenan) Herbert.
Flynn / Flinn.
Thomas Flynn, born circa 1820, possibly in County Clare, the son of John and
Mary (nee Gallagher) Flynn. His siblings were Denis, James, John, Kathleen,
Betty and Julia. Thomas Flynn left Ennis, County Clare, 1851, arriving in
Tasmania in that same year in “Blenheim”. He moved to Creswick,
Victoria, in 1856. Thomas Flynn married Anne Carroll in Ballarat in 1863,
the daughter of Roger and Catherine (nee Mitchell) Carroll of Rosetown, County
Kildare. Their children born at Creswick John Andrew, 1864, Thomas Michael,
1867. Thomas Flynn died at Ballarat in 1901. Thomas Michael Flynn married
Martha Hilson McDonald, the daughter of James and Mary Ann (nee Wright) Coles
from Cambridgeshire, England, and had three sons born at Boulder, Western
Australia of whom Albert Flynn (born 1902) married Elizabeth Jacobi at Katanning
in 1933.
Long.
Daniel Long, born 1846 in County Tipperary, the son of John and Ellen (nee
Richardson) Long. Daniel married Mary Ann Hill (of Woodend) in Melbourne
in 1881, the daughter of Patrick Hill from County Kildare and his wife, Margaret
Tuohy from Kilkishen, County Clare. Daniel and Mary’s children were
Martin, 1882, Hotham, Margaret, Patrick, 1886, Carlton, Mary, Catherine,
1890, Fitzroy, Daniel, 1894. Daniel Long died at Northcote in 1921. Catherine
Long (born at Fitzroy in 1890) married Frederick Cameron at Richmond in 1909,
the son of James Cameron from Dublin and his wife, Hannah Lynch from Cork.
Catherine and Frederick had four children of whom Frederick Joseph Cameron
(born 1917 at Hawthorn) married Kathleen Hughes at Innisfail, Queensland,
in 1947.
Lynch.
James Lynch, born circa 1799 in County Clare, the son of Michael and Catherine
(nee O’Brien) Lynch. James married Eleanor Carrigg circa 1838, the
daughter of John and Bridget (nee Hines, or Hynes) Carrigg. Children born
in Ireland James, circa 1840, William, circa 1842. They arrived in Sydney
in 1844 in “Neptune” from Cork. Children born at Gundagi Edward,
circa 1844, Henry, Andrew, Michael, Patrick, 1850. James Lynch died at Gundagi
in 1871. William Lynch married Elizabeth Morris in 1869, the daughter of
Richard and Mary (nee McNougan) Morris and they had ten children of whom
James Patrick Lynch (born 1872) married Florence Lindsay in Sydney in 1902.
Noonan.
John Noonan, born circa 1830 in County Tipperary, the son of Michael and Catherine
(nee Fox) Noonan. John arrived in New South Wales in 1858 in “Herald
of the Morning” with his brother, Daniel. A miner at Araluen where
he married Hannah Lynch in 1867, the daughter of Donal and Mary Lynch from
Tralee, County Kerry. Their children Mary, 1868, Matthew, Joseph, Ellen,
1876. John Noonan died at Candelo in 1904. Joseph, born 1874, married Mary
Smith at Kyogle in 1895, the daughter of Denis Smith from County Tipperary
and his wife, Honora Madden from County Clare. Joseph and Mary had five sons
of whom Matthew Noonan (born in Pambula in 1897) married Phyllis Madden at
Byron Bay in 1947.
Slattery.
Thomas Slattery, born circa 1834 in Ennistymon, County Clare, the son of David
and Mary (nee Rihhar) Slattery. Thomas married Catherine Hayes in 1853. They
arrived in Melbourne in 1855 in “Frederich”. Children born in
Bendigo area John, 1854, Bridget, Mary Ann, David, Austin, Dennis, Margaret
and Ellen. John married Elizabeth Surtees in 1887 and they had seven children
of whom Mollie Slattery married Archibald Law in 1927.

Thomas Cleary, born circa 1816 in County Clare. Thomas married Bridget Heffernan
of Doonas, the daughter of Aeneas and Mary (nee McCormick) Heffernan of Doonas
[recte, Doora]. Thomas and Bridget arrived in Melbourne from Plymouth in
1848 in “Lady Peel”. Children born in Kilmore Michael, 1849,
Patrick, Thomas, Mary, Bridget, John, Margaret, 1864. Patrick Cleary (born
1851) married Barbara Flinn in Albury, New South Wales in 1878, the daughter
of Michael Flinn junior and his wife, Barbara Heavey from Summerhill, County
Meath. Patrick and Barbara had nine children of whom Michael Cleary (born
1882 at Jindara, New South Wales) married Ethel Gullen at Grenfell in 1913.
Grehan.
Patrick Grehan, born circa 1843 in County Clare. Patrick married Jane Clarke
at Ballyvaughan in 1863, the daughter of William and Abigail (nee Fletcher)
Clarke. Patrick and Jane arrived in Melbourne in 1865 in “Southern
Ocean” with their son, Patrick junior. Children born at Richmond Sarah,
1866, William, Daniel, Mary Jane, 1871. Patrick (born 1864) married Edith
Kendall in Ballarat in 1887, the daughter of James and Hannah (nee Inman)
Kendall from Yorkshire and they had three children. Frank Grehan married
Alice Kraefft in Ringwood in 1918.
Guerin.
Roger Guerin, born 1806 in County Clare, joined the 21st Royal North British
Fusiliers in 1823 in Limerick. Roger married Eleanor Berckleman of County
Clare in 1830, He was a sergeant accompanying convicts to Tasmania, arriving
at Hobart in 1833 in “Isabella”, and then proceeded in “Jane” to
Swan River, Western Australia with his wife and daughter Dorinda, born 1832,
Mary Anne Berckleman (married R.J. Sholl in Western Australia). Roger Guerin
was a farmer and publican at Wonnerup after retiring in 1840; he died in
1878. Children James, 1834, Mary, Catherine, Eleanor, Frederick, Lucy, Jane,
1846. Dorinda married Henry Thompson Ker in 1849, the son of Robert and Augusta
(nee Buchanan) Ker. They had five children including Augusta (born 1861)
who married Algernon Clifton in Bunbury in 1887. Kathleen Clifton married
Alexander Richardson; Dorinda married Llewellyn Davies.
Kenny.
Bridget Kenny, born circa 1813 in County Clare or County Galway. Bridget married
James O’Donnell. They arrived in Melbourne in 1841 in “Alexander.
They proceeded to Tasmania where their children were born Anne, 1844, Rose,
James, 1848. James O’Donnell junior married Mary Anne Watson at Brighton,
Tasmania, in 1882, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (nee Porteous) Watson
(who had married in Hobart in 1850). Their son, Edward O’Donnell (born
at Black Brush in 1886) married Alma Ellen Cashion in Hobart in 1911.
Lillis.
Catherine Lillis, born Cloondoorney More, parish of Tulla, County Clare, the
daughter of John and Margaret (nee Canavan) Lillis. Catherine arrived in
Melbourne in 1857 in “Ebba Brahe” with John, Margaret and Patrick.
She married Bernard Goss in 1860, the son of Richard and Catherine (nee Carroll)
Goss from Ballinakill, Queen’s County (Laois). Their children Richard,
1861, Michael, Catherine, Mary, John, Margaret, Bernard, William, Bridgit,
Patrick, Jamse, 1878. Lived at Kyneton and then at Woodstock where Catherine
died in 1925. John Goss (born 1866) married Fanny McFarlane at Essendon in
1905, the daughter of Thomas McFarlane from Killeevan, County Monaghan and
his wife, Ellen Linehan from Dromtarriffe, County Cork. Their son, William
Goss, married Margaret Henebery in 1954.
McCallum.
Bridget Ann McCallum, born circa 1840 in Ennis, the daughter of Laurence and
Honoria (nee Maloney) McCallum. May have arrived in Adelaide, South Australia,
with family before 1862. She married John Lucas at Ballarat in 1862 and their
surviving children were George, Sarah, Elizabeth, John, Norah, Rebecca, all
born in Victoria and Margaret, born 1878 in South Australia. Bridget Ann
drowned in Balaclava, South Australia in 1881 after which the family moved
back to Victoria.
McGrath.
Patrick McGrath from Carrigaholt, County Clare, and associated family through
marriage, Haren. Mention of a personal family letter from father to daughter,
probably written in mid 1860s.
McInerney.
Cornelius McInerney, born 1851 in County Clare, the son of Cornelius and Hannah
(nee Hennessy) McInerney. A mail driver for Cobb & Co. at Tarcutta, New
South Wales. Cornelius married Mary Brown at Wagga Wagga in 1875, the daughter
of Henry Brown from South Sea Island, USA, and his wife, Elizabeth Lynch
from County Meath. Children of Cornelius and Mary were John, 1876, Patrick,
Mary, Cornelius, Elizabeth, Peter, Charlotte, Julia, David, Catherine, Joseph,
1889. Joseph married Olive Brown in 1913, the daughter of Thomas and Janet
Bairds (Stirrat) Brown. Seven children of whom the eldest, Josephine (born
1913) married Andrew Makin in Canberra in 1936.

James McInerney Ryan, born 1851 in Ennis, County Clare, the son of James and
Eliza (nee McInerney) Ryan. He arrived in Melbourne in 1868, possibly in “Conflict”.
A cab proprietor at Collingwood. James Ryan married Hanna / Annie Watson
in 1887, the daughter of Charles Watson from England and Catherine Buston
Watson, nee Trand, from County Limerick. Their children Alfred, 1888, Florence,
Clarence, Esther, Lawrence, Kathleen, Nora, John, 1907. Alfred Ryan married
Maud Fynch in 1913, the daughter of John and Marion (nee Brown) Fynch. They
had five children of whom the eldest, Lawrence (born 1914) married Lorna
Edwards in 1940.
Ryan.
Mary Ryan, born circa 1828 in Killaloe, County Care, the daughter of John and
Mary (nee O’Brien) Ryan. She married Frederick Parrott in Geelong in
1854, the son of William and Sarah (nee Briaris) Parrott from England. Their
children were William, 1855, Ann, Sarah, Emily, John, Emily, John, Samuel,
Frederick, Mary, Victoria, 1874. William Parrott married Frances Andrews
in Geelong in 1880, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (nee Tremayne Higgins)
Andrews from England. They had fifteen children.
Touclaee, County Clare.
A note on the place name of Tooclae (or Tooclay, Touclay, etc.) in County Clare,
noting it as “about one mile south east of the Doolin Post Office,
represented on the Ordnance Survey maps within the townland of Boherboy,
parish of Killilagh”.
