Truagh

Barony of: Tullagh, Parish: Doonass, Population: 20
Location and Brief Description:
Truagh village comprises a R.C. Church, C.C.’s house, unlicensed shop and a few other scattered houses. Another scattered hamlet with N. School, teacher’s house, etc. called Sallybank is located one mile distant. The isolation of Truagh from its parent parish of Doonass forms its one peculiarity. The parish of Broadford (diocese Killaloe) and Parteen (Limerick diocese) dovetail into, and cuts it off, from, so the C.C. of Truagh, as well as the P.P. of Doonass in their approaches to each other, or to their flock, must pass through a mile belt of other parochial and diocesan preserves. This creates a difficulty for the clergy in locating their flock, and is unique in the Killaloe diocese.

Important public buildings (Give brief notes on architectural features)
Roman catholic church, of gothic architecture, built in 1843. Has centre isle, and two wings, well lighted, by high multipaned windows. This church is very neat and bright, it has no special architectural features. It is supposed to have been built on a very bad foundation, though its present appearance - after a century’s storms - does not support that theory.

Hospitals
Nearest Limerick City or district hospital of Raheen, 15 miles distant.
